Welcome to the Gun Show

So the other day I went to TJ Maxx, shopping because I am heading back to school soon, and was getting things I needed before I left.  Then I realized I oddly did not want to shop for clothes.  Now if you know me you know that is very unlikely and I should go see a doctor now because something is probably wrong.

But, because I didn’t want to shop for clothes, I looked at everything else in the store and still managed to spend $50, so don’t worry, I’m not dying and the world isn’t ending.

So I bought a kettlebell for the days I am feeling really lazy and don’t want to walk all the way to the gym.  I know like I said it’s lazy, but at least I’m making it harder for myself to make excuses to not work out…progress? Anyway, a week later this site http://www.fitsugar.com/Kettlebell-Exercises-Weight-Loss-21504882 was on Pinterest.

It’s like God is tell me to get off the couch and start doing some sit-ups.

I’m going to use it for the first time Friday on my off-running day, so I’ll let you know if it’s going to make it hard to pour the milk in your cereal the next morning.

Day 9

Yesterday I did not want to run and I actually almost talked myself out of it…almost.  My grandparents came over to visit and we had dinner.  They stayed and chatted for a bit, and then went on their merry way.  It was great to spend time with them.  During that time, it didn’t occur to me it was getting later and later.  As my grandma walks out the door she says, “Oh, it’s starting to drizzle Sara, you better get running if you’re going to”.  Crap– now I have to go and NOW.  I sat on the couch and thought “Okay, it’s going to rain, so I just won’t go and I’ll go tomorrow”.

But that’s just lazy.  I looked outside and it still wasn’t raining.  So– I sucked it up, dragged myself off the couch, pulled on some running shorts and put my hair in a ponytail.  I was ready to go.  As soon as I walked out the door it started to drizzle, so I figured I should book it.  And wouldn’t you know it didn’t rain the whole time.

I ran four miles barely getting wet and set a new, still slow but my fastest, record for a 5K.  I’m not sure how that happened because I finished the four miles 14 second slower than my last time, but hey, I’ll take it.

Today is pilates, so my knees get some rest, and then probably another 3.5-4 miles the next run, hopefully faster.

Day 8

So I ran the four miles on Saturday, and it was amazing.  It was a little rough to get through, but afterward I felt great about myself.  I have never run that far before, so getting to that goal made me feel great.  I now know I can accomplish the goals I set.  Sunday was a resting day. It was nice to take the day off.  Today I should and hopefully 4 miles, maybe 3.5, but I should run the 4.  Atleast you all hold me accountable.

Day 6

Yesterday I had a hard time finding motivation to actually get outside and run.  I didn’t go until almost an hour after I normally do.  I finally got off the couch because I knew I would regret not going.  It felt great once I actually started moving.  With the first mile behind me, I felt amazing.  I kept going, with my goal being 3.5 miles.  Towards the end, it was hard to keep pushing, but I kept going.  I finished the 3.5 miles and felt really good afterward.  I was proud of myself.  Those miles didn’t kill me, and I actually was impressed at how well I ran them.  I even ran my personal-best 5K during it.  Today I won’t run, but instead do some pilates, because on Saturday, I run my longest distance, which is 4 miles.  Turns out, I am very happy I got off the couch last night.

Day 5

Yesterday was great.  I only ran a little over two miles, but I ran it my fastest time yet.  I love the feeling of making my time faster.  My calves are so sore today though, but I like feeling sore, it makes me feel like I’m actually working hard.  This morning I weighed myself, not great, but didn’t gain weight so I guess I can’t complain.  Today after work, I’m going to run a bit over three miles, we’ll see how far I get.

Training is going well so far though, working toward four miles for Saturday!

Day 4

Well, Day 3 didn’t go so well.  I had a cyst that burst, luckily on my day off, so that put me out of business yesterday.  Today I was feel a bit better, and I ran three miles.  I felt great afterward, I probably could have kept going.  I also ran my fastest overall time today, so for being sick it turned out well.  I’m still in some pain from the cyst, but nothing unbearable.  Hopefully it’s much better tomorrow so I can continue training.  I have new found inspiration for this half-marathon.  My brother doesn’t think I can do it.  Frankly, that is all I need.  I LOVE proving people wrong.  Tell me I can’t?  I’ll show you I can.

Can’t wait to rub it in his face!

Day 2

Yesterday was great! I ran a little over 3 miles in the morning and didn’t have to worry about it the rest of the day.  I felt great.  Sunday is going to be my day off I decided, so back to work tomorrow.  I’m very excited about training, but I need to find something to do to cross-train.  I am leaning toward pilates, but I’ll need to find a video for it.  Happy Sunday!

Day 1

Today I decided I am going to run my first half marathon.  I’m going to run it in the end of October.  Monday I will officially start training for it.  I’m excited to start it, but a little nervous.  I thought it would be a good idea to document my journey.  I already run almost every day, so hopefully training won’t be too awful.  We will see how it goes.  VERY EXCITING!

Goals

So I decided every day I should set a goal for the next one.  Today’s goal?  Actually get up and run in the morning instead of at night.  When I wake up, I’ll give myself twenty minutes to pull it together, and then I’ll go for my run.  I will run three miles. And then I can enjoy the rest of my day and not worry about working out.  I’m excited to make this a habit.
